INSTRUMENTS & RESOURCES

We are operating a range of mass spectrometers and supporting instruments for a wide range of element and isotope analyses. Below is a list of the major instrumental equipment of our lab and a brief description of its use. Feel free to enquire about details of our instruments and their operational capacities.

NEPTUNE PLUS MC-ICP-MS

The Neptune plus is a multi-collector inductively coupled plasma mass spectrometer and our laboratory flagship. It is used for high precision analyses of isotope ratios. With the Neptune+, we analyse elements with a mass range covering almost the entire periodic table. In our lab we use the Neptune to analyse solutions or laser-ablated material, often in a split-stream configuration.

TRITON PLUS TIMS

The Triton plus is a thermal ionisation mass spectrometer that allows for the extraction of the highest precision information from limited sample amounts. In the TIMS we heat a filament containing purified sample to generate ions, which means that it relies on clean-laboratory based chemistry, also available within the Isotopia Facility. This instrument is well-know for its high resolution and stable signal.

DELTA XY GAS MASS SPECTROMETER

ICAP-TQ TRIPLE QUAD MASS SPECTROMETER

The iCAP™ TQ ICP-MS delivers research level trace elemental analysis, combined with routine ease-of-use. The Triple Quadropole technology allows for uncomplicated analysis with incredible accuracy, by eliminating unresolvable mass intereferences.

ICAP-Q SINGLE-QUAD MASS SPECTROMETER

The iCAP™ Q ICP-MS has all the capabilities of the TQ, minus the mass isolation from the reaction cell. It is a very simple instrument to operate and delivers high quality trace elemental analysis with impressive speed. It is used for solution and for laser-ablated material in split stream configuration with the Neptune or the TQ.

RESOLUTION LASER ABLATION SYSTEMS

The Resolution laser ablation sytem features an excimer laser with an S155 dual volume sample cell. This cell delivers fast washout times, outstanding signal sensitivity and minimal fractionation. The diverse sample holders ensure that imagination is the only limitation to what we can zap with the laser.

NEW WAVE LASER ABLATION SYSTEM

Our New Wave laser ablation system has been our working horse for many years and is now dedicated to sulphide analyses.
